Practice day – visit from the computer science course of the Leifheit Campus Nassau

Friday morning, 9:00 a.m. and five curious young faces: The 8th grade computer science course from the Leifheit Campus in Nassau was a guest in our Wiesbaden-based office. The high school students were given a day-long insight into the various areas of responsibility in a software company.

As early as the 8th grade, the Leifheit Campus, a private high school in Nassau, offers the opportunity to discover the world of IT as part of a compulsory elective subject. "IT is not only a diverse field of learning, but also offers important prospects for the future – IT experts are in demand and will continue to be needed in the future. Getting a taste of the practical side of things at an early stage is very beneficial for our students," says computer science teacher Ms Both. "We were therefore very happy to accept Futura Solutions' invitation."   

The initiator of the practical day was Thomas Möchel, Head of Development at Futura Solutions and father of two students. He accompanied the small group through the program of the day. Managing Director Hartmut Schwadtke started the day by presenting the most important facts about the company. Under the motto "Even good software does not sell itself", he gave a small impression of the challenges encpuntered by the sales department.

IT with a future

Markus Koch, Head of Product Management, then shed light on the wide-ranging responsibilities of a product manager. Of course, programming itself was not neglected: At the end, the young people were given a task on which they could apply their HTML skills.

A lot of information in a short time - therefore table soccer breaks and a generous serving of pizza were all the more welcome to recharge the energy reserves. "The students learned many new things. But they were particularly surprised by the fact that social skills such as teamwork play such an important role in computer science," the teacher sums up.
